The Ion Age – Habitation Outpost Review

The Ion Age makes many great 15mm Sci-Fi miniatures, but also some interesting resin scenery for your 15mm battles. Lets review their Habitation Outpost.

The Ion Age is a British brand that makes Sci-Fi miniatures and scenery with an space opera setting. In this post we’re reviewing a scenery pack named Habitation Outpost from their modular scenery range. You can see the complete range here.

The Habitation Outpost pack consists of 11 grey resin elements that can be bought separately. If you buy the pack, you’re saving 20% of the price of the 11 elements.

There are two bigger packs named Habitation Bundle and Habitation Colony, also with a 20% off.

The 11 pieces are made of grey resin and they are hand-sculpted.

The details are crisp and we’ve found no bubbles in any of the pieces, which is really nice and unusual. 🙂

The size of the pieces, specially of the 2 buildings, is bigger than we think looking at the pics. Unlike many scenery brands, these ‘houses’ looks real in terms of size: you can really imagine some space soldiers living inside. We’ll see the sizes later when we look at each item.

All the pieces fit well. They’re no pegs or pins to join them, but you can use magnets if you want the pieces not to move on the table while you are playing.

Lets look at the pieces that comes with the bundle, one by one:

1x Three Way Connector

A three way corridor that lets us join 3 modules.

A little corridor to separate one module from another.

1x Power Spire

You can put it on the ground or on top of the Hab Domes. It’s used to generate the energy needed for the systems in the outpost to work.

2x Hab Domes

The biggest pieces in the pack: 66mm from side to side. Really nice size! Bigger than you expect from the pictures. These are the ‘houses’ of the soldiers or civilians living in the outpost. They have a plain wall to attach them to any of the corridors.

2x Turret Connectors

The pieces where the missile pods will be mounted. If you are a little hands, you can use them to place other kind of weapons and expand the modularity of the outpost. With the Missiles Pods attached, the height of the module is 47.5 mm. Great! 🙂

2x Missile Pods

The Habitation Outpost is surely going to be the objective of some alien attacks, so two missile pods are going to defend the colony against these attacks.

We can only say good things about these little outpost: the quality is great and the size is bigger than we expected. The only bad thing about it is… that we want the bigger outpost packs!!! 😉

(Meanwhile, we have started painting this outpost, so stay tuned for it!)
